Align Hinterlands

Hinterlands is a 325-hectare dry stock farm that supports our dairy farms. Situated near Mount Somers, the farm’s hillside location means plenty of reliable rainfall, making it a great dry land property.

After purchasing Hinterlands in 2013, we embarked on extensive redevelopment. This included recontouring, fencing, and 100% regrassing. Hinterlands carries all Align’s young stock, from 6-23 months. Mt View Mixed Aged Cows are also taken to Hinterlands throughout the dry-off period.

Hinterlands is named after being located in the Hinterlands of the Mid Canterbury plains, Hinterlands being an elevated area.

Hinterlands and our regenerative study

In the 2019/2020 season, Hinterlands started its transition to a regenerative system, with 10% of the effective area planted with mixed diverse species. Today, 100% of Hinterlands is operating under a regenerative system. Hinterlands is also working with Manaaki Whenua on the long-term benefits of diverse soil primer crops.
